These are creative field notes from making stop-motion puppets, one-of-a-kind art dolls, miniatures, and other handmade projects.
Stop-motion puppet armatures
An armature is the internal skeleton or support structure inside a puppet. It helps the puppet hold poses and move in small increments during animation.
Stop-motion puppet armatures are usually made in one of two ways: wire armatures or ball-and-socket armatures.
Wire armatures are easier to make and less expensive, which makes them a good choice for beginners, practice puppets, and simpler projects. The tradeoff is that wire armatures are short-lived compared with ball-and-socket armatures, because wire eventually breaks from repeated bending.
Ball-and-socket armatures are more durable and allow smoother, more controlled movement. They are also more complicated to build and more expensive, so they are usually chosen for more advanced or long-term puppet projects.
Small parts
Morezmore has a category called “All You Need Is One, One Is All You Need.”
In this category, customers can buy just one small part, such as one screw, one hex nut, one washer, one connector, or another tiny useful piece.
This is helpful when a customer needs a replacement part, wants to test a size, or only needs one piece for a small puppet, armature, miniature, repair, or experiment.
Custom puppet commissions
Sometimes Natasha takes custom puppet-making commissions.
Customers interested in a custom puppet should contact Morezmore with as much information as possible, including:
-
a simple drawing, even a stick figure drawing is fine
-
approximate puppet height
-
wire armature or ball-and-socket armature preference
-
preferred materials for the face and hands
-
special features, costume ideas, props, or movement needs
After reviewing the project, Natasha can let the customer know whether she may be able to make it, what materials or armature type might work best, and what the approximate cost may be.
