This brass joint tension regulator is designed for use in place of a standard hex nut on M2 ball-and-socket armature joints.
Ball-and-socket joints may gradually loosen after repeated posing and require periodic tightening. When a joint is secured with a small hex nut, it can be difficult to locate and reach beneath puppet padding, fabric, or clothing.
The extended cylindrical shape of this brass regulator makes the joint easier to find by touch. The artist can locate it beneath the padding or costume and tighten the joint using fingers or pliers without dismantling the puppet.
The regulator remains small enough to stay concealed beneath padding and clothing, so it does not interfere with the finished puppetβs appearance.
In the photo, the joint tension regulators are the small brass cylinders securing the screws at the armature joints.
